Abstract: When the term "mathematics education" is stated, what comes to mind? Alternately, does anything come to mind? Mathematicians and students often ask me the following questions: (a) What is mathematics education?, (b) Why should "I" (an undergraduate student, graduate student, faculty member, etc) care about mathematics education?, and (c) What does it mean to go to graduate school and study mathematics education? In this talk, I will discuss the "answers" to the aforementioned questions as well as address any questions you may have about mathematics education and mathematics education research.
