Speaker: Katie Frick, North Dakota State University Title: Technology and Pre-Service Secondary Geometry Teachers Abstract: Using technology in high school school classrooms is not necessarily something that teachers are accustomed to doing. They are usually more concerned about whether the students know how to do that math with pencil and paper. But envisioning what they are doing or writing about is sometimes hard in an area such as geometry, even if the teacher tries their hardest. In this paper, we investigated why technological programs, such as Geometers Sketchpad, should be integrated into every high school math classroom. A way to do that is to start the pre-service teachers off with the program during their undergraduate career. We will reflect on literature and discuss what research has already been done in the subject, why this topic is relevant in the high school and undergraduate level of learning, what the strength/weaknesses are in the research that has already been done and what should be done in the future.
