Speaker: Douglas R. Anderson, Concordia College Title: Basins of Attraction in a Cournot Duopoly Map Abstract: Discrete dynamical systems are introduced. Then, for a nonlinear Cournot duopoly map developed by Austrian economist Michael Kopel, we show that a circle, lines, and rectangles play a key role in determining the basins of attraction in the case of three nontrivial Nash equilibria; these simple results were part of a summer project with two mathematics and economics double majors at Concordia.
