TRINITY UNIVERSITY

In addition to the special session on Commutative Rings and Monoids at the annual meeting of the AMS-MAA in San Antonio, we have organized a special day with four 45 minute addresses encompassing some of the major directions of research in commutative rings and monoids. These talks will take place in the Stieren Theatre at Trinity University.  The Stieren Theatre is located in the Ruth Taylor Theatre building which is number 3 on this campus map.  A schedule of the session, as well as links to abstracts of the talks, can be found below.

1:00 PM      Marco Fontana, Dipartimento di Matematica, Università degli Studi "Roma Tre"

On an amalgamated duplication of a ring
2:00 PM      Alan Loper, Department of Mathematics, The Ohio State University

A generalization of Kronecker function rings and Nagata rings
2:45 PM      Break

3:15 PM      Juan Igancio Garcia-Garcia, Departamento de Álgebra, Universidad de Granada

Proportionally modular Diophantine inequalities
4:15 PM      Wolfgang Hassler, Institute für Mathematik, Karl-Franzens-Universität

Direct-sum decompositions of modules over commutative rings
5:30 PM      Reception in Trinity University's Skyline Room

Transportation Information: Trinity University can be reached from the Downtown Area by the Number 8 Via Transit Bus.  You can board the Bus Downtown at Navarro and Villita Streets.  The fare is $0.80 each way and can be paid on the bus.  Trinity University will operate a limited shuttle service from one of the major hotels to campus.  People wishing to ride the shuttle should contact Scott Chapman directly by e-mail.  If you are arriving into San Antonio late morning, the airport is about 4 miles from Trinity's campus.  There is not direct bus service to Trinity from the airport, but a cab should cost about $10.   We can store your luggage in a secure location for the afternoon.  The Trinity University bus will be available to shuttle people back to the downtown hotel area at the end of the day.  The Bus will make two runs downtown, one at 6:45 PM and the other at 7:30 (at the conclusion of the reception).

This page will be updated to include some of the planned social events, directions, and other useful information for this Mini-Conference as well as for the conference in general.   Questions can be directed to either of the conference organizers, Scott Chapman or Jim Coykendall.
